Affiliate Marketers Beware! – to sign up as an affiliate thinking you will be getting a discount in the form of a commission on the product you are buying because you use your own link, is very misleading.

Most times it takes over a month and 1/2 for the transaction to clear. To top that off, most 'newbees' do some things wrong when creating their link and do not get tracked anyway, or paid the commission.

Then, there is this equation – most program referrals require a minimum commission, before they will send you a check.

$100 is sometimes set as the default minimum hidden away in the fine print that goes undiscovered by you for months, maybe years. In most cases, it takes several sales to reach the minimum.

Get this, if there isn't any action in your affiliate account after a certain period of time they start deducting money from that already small morsel to cover their so called carrying charges.

If you are not a skilled serious affiliate marketer with serious intention on promoting that product in question, becoming an affiliate to get a discount only steals the commission from the affiliate marketer that did the advertising that you originally saw and, in the bitter end, the company keeps your commission which should have been someone else's in the first place.

Then some of those company's want to charge you for the writing of your affiliate commission check (should you ever earn one) or the transaction fees of an automatic deposit.

I believe it to be fact that only a small 3% (if not less than this) of the affiliates that sign up actually get that first check. This means that 97% of the time the company handling the account, manufacturer, or seller gets to keep WHAT? Your Commission! “They call it free advertising.” at your expense! Did you ever see an ad how they made all that big money at little or any expense?

In my fair opinion, I believe there should be a law stating that in order to sign up as an affiliate you first need to purchase the product in question. This should be done by you as Standard Common Courtesy.

That Standard Common Courtesy would help get the Sellers Advertised Commission into the Affiliate Marketers Pocket instead of the Seller's Fat Bank Account.

Most products require several sales by you in order to get that refund on the commission. Most new people in affiliate marketing do not stick with it long enough or have the marketing experience to get any commission checks.

In order to recognize a Worthy Affiliate Program, keep in mind the following:

  • Affiliate Program that requires you to purchase the product before you are allowed to become an affiliate. (this means you cannot use your own link to purchase).

  • Affiliate Program that states up front that you Do Not get a commission by using your own link to purchase.

  • Affiliate Program that has a Two Tier integrated commission program. (This means you get some action from the seller for someone that clicked off your link and became an affiliate also).

  • Note: Those affiliate programs that do not have those first 2 rules realize the benefit of the 97% FREE ADVERTISING. Bottom line...MORE MONEY IN THEIR DEEP POCKETS!

Therefore, signing up as an affiliate just to get a discount, not only steals from the rightful Affiliate Marketer, it also makes the company selling the product more money because the commission probably won't get paid.

  I've only scratched the surface.
